متن کاملHighly efficient chip-scale III-V/silicon hybrid optical amplifiers.
We discuss the design and demonstration of highly efficient 1.55 µm hybrid III-V/Silicon semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA). The optimized III-V wafer stack consists of Al(0.10)In(0.71)Ga(0.18)As multiple quantum wells (MQW) and Al(0.48)In(0.52)As electron stop layers to realize SOAs with high wall-plug efficiency (WPE). We present various designs and experimentally determine WPE values for...
متن کاملSilicon nanophotonic devices for chip-scale optical communication applications [Invited].
This paper reviews recent work in the area of silicon photonic devices and circuits for monolithic and heterogeneous integration of circuits and systems on a chip. In this context, it presents fabrication results for producing low-loss silicon waveguides without etching. Resonators and add-drop distributed filters utilizing sidewall modulation fabricated in a single lithography and etching step...
متن کاملNonlinear pulse propagation in optical fibers.
We discuss the propagation of nonlinear optical pulses in fibers. The wave equation is solved taking the radial dependence in an average way. The radius versus wavelength curves for "no dispersion" in SiO(2) glass are calculated and plotted. These no-dispersion curves separate the regions of light and dark solitons supported by the fibers.
متن کاملOptical pulse propagation in nonlinear photonic crystals.
We present a formalism for optical pulse propagation in nonlinear photonic crystals of arbitrary dimensionality. Using a multiple-scale analysis, we derive the dynamical nonlinear Schrödinger equation obeyed by the envelope function modulating an underlying Bloch function. Effective coefficients appear in that equation characterizing the effects of Kerr nonlinearity, linear gain or loss, and ma...
